Our Story

We're building Africa's enterprise AI, quietly.

African businesses deserve world-class AI at African prices. We build locally-hosted, affordable automation that competes with platforms costing ten times more — on African soil, on the data you already own.

The Journey

Why we started ALAT Labs

Four moments. One throughline: AI infrastructure that works for African budgets and African data.

2023 · The problem

The problem we saw

African enterprises were paying $500K–$1M+ a year for analytics platforms built for Western markets. Local SMEs couldn't even afford basic automation. The same AI capabilities were becoming commoditised globally — just not for Africa.

2024 · The shift

The aha moment

What if we built enterprise-grade AI on open-source foundations, hosted it locally for data sovereignty, and priced it for African budgets? We didn't need to reinvent AI — we needed to democratise access to it.

2024–2025 · The build

Building in the open

We began building THESA — our enterprise platform — and SME AI tools on Ollama for local LLMs, agentic workflow automation, and open-source analytics stacks. Every component picked for cost and self-hostability.

Aug 2025 · The launch

Official launch

ALAT Labs was incorporated in Kenya (Reg: PVT-3B15E93Y). We launched with five THESA verticals — Banking, Health, Pathways, AI Hub, Media — and six SME AI products. The mission: make AI accessible to every African business.

What we believe

Four tenets. No exceptions.

The principles that hold under pressure — at every product, every customer, every workflow we build.

Tenet 01

African-first

Built for Africa, by Africans. We understand the currencies, the connectivity, the working day, and the business contexts. We don't ship a translated foreign product.

Tenet 02

Local hosting

Data sovereignty matters. Your data stays in Africa, on infrastructure you control. No silent egress. No quiet retention. No surprises.

Tenet 03

Affordable

Roughly 90% cheaper than foreign alternatives. Enterprise AI shouldn't need an enterprise budget — pricing is the access problem, so we treat it as one.

Tenet 04

Open source

No vendor lock-in. Built on open foundations so you own the stack you depend on. If we ever disappoint you, you walk with your data and your workflows.
